New Beginnings
Time Together and Traditions
This is a time for celebration, reflection, and new beginnings. Families from all over the world have many different traditions. In previous years when our children were much younger, we would gather together in our backyard and pop fireworks and eat bunuelos that my mother-in-law would make. I sure miss those times. These days are a bit slower. We usually spend the evening relaxing from the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring and just sit around not doing very much. When it’s countdown time my husband and I will walk onto our screened porch and watch all the fireworks go off. However, I’m tempted to change it up this year and throw in some games and of course more food.
Regardless every New Year’s Eve our family plays the song “ Auld Lang Syne” and looks at all the pictures from that year. I can’t help but feel a bit of sadness as I hear that song. I don’t know if it’s because everyone is getting older or the changes and challenges the new year will bring.
One of the other traditions I have is choosing a word that best describes my goal for the year. It’s a very special word that will not only remind me of my goal but encourage me of my purpose. The idea is to be focused and intentional. Last year the word of the year was “Change”. I can’t tell you how much has changed in our lives this year!
Let’s get excited about this new year. I can say that knowing that throughout the year you have loved and been loved is all that matters. May this year bring you and your family joy and happiness and that you embrace this new year with anticipation, courage, and love unconditionally. Cheers to 2023 and all your new beginnings!
